Religion in the USA and Elsewhere
by Joe Grundy intrying to follow media reports in the us and elsewhere, a question occurred to me.. in the uk, religious beliefs are largely irrelevant to most people.
even those who claim adherence seem to do so in a fairly vague way and it doesn't seem to make much difference.. in the us (it seems to me) it's a much bigger issue.
the evangelical christian movement seems quite powerful politically in various iterations ("family values" etc.

Off On A Trip - But Little Enthusiam
by Joe Grundy innever was a jw, but been here a long time.. off on a trip in a week or so, uk to andorra to stay with a friend for 10 days or so (beautiful place) then a week or so wending through france back home.. did the same trip the last couple of years -it was wonderful.
met some lovely people, including an ex-polce woman over coffees and calvados after dinner.. but ... i don't feel so enthusiastic about this trip.
i'll visit the cathar sites and other places.. maybe- just maybe - i've come to the conclusion that these trips are not as much fun if you don't have a companion to share it with..

E P O s
by Joe Grundy inwarning: this post is mysogynistic, non pc and who knows what else.. on a completely different forum - dealing with cars/motoring - i came across the term 'epo'.
it was used by a guy who wanted to buy a 'classic' car as a hobby' he encountered some opposition in the domestic sphere.. he used the term epo = 'enjoyment prevention officer'.
referring to his wife, i believe.. i couldn't possibly comment (but as a single (divorced) bloke i probably could!

"Ones"
by Joe Grundy in(i never was a dub).. this is something which has intrigued me for a while.
i don't know whether it's dub-speak, or us-speak.. it's the use of the word 'ones' as in 'interested ones', 'worldly ones', 'disfellowshipped ones' and so on and so on.. in the 'normal world' we would probably use the word 'people'.. thoughts?.

ARC: WT cf VAG
by Joe Grundy in(i never was a jw).. as a retired child abuse professional, i followed (and continue to do so - it's an ongoing process) the arc proceedngs closely.
my understanding is that the purpose of the arc is to establish what current practices exist in various organisations and institutions, how those practices compare with accepted best practice, and what organisations and institutions need to do to bring their procedures and policies into line with best practice.
(and to find a way to compensate victims for what's been done wrong).. wt is case study #29 in the arc process.
